Biodiversity Conservation Researcher, Environmental Journalist and Social Media Researcher but, first of all, a active citizen involved with actions to communicate science and empower public engagement.

Author and coauthor of scientific papers published in relevant magazines, as Science, has devoted many years investigating mutualistic interactions between animals and plants through complex network system analysis, searching for evolutionary and ecological patterns, to understand how ecosystems evolved and how could we rebuild ecological functionalities.

One of the first scientists to explore the Tropical Forest Canopy in South America and to attempt to quantify the impact of Climate Change on it. Responsible for works that became a landmark, as the edition of the renowned 500 pages book "Ornithology & Conservation".

Responsible for several initiatives to recreate, restore and reconnect green areas, specially in urban landscapes turning Brazilian metropolitan areas into Biophilic Cities.

Holds a great background in sustainability frameworks of high credibility and importance, as Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the United Nations Global Compact.

Consider by peers as the most pioneering Brazilian scientist in the field of Citizen Science, some of his initiatives deeply influence the course of Citizen Science in the country. Coordinates the National Collaborative Monitoring of Bird-Window Collisions, the National Collaborative Monitoring of Changes on Urban Birds Activity Periods and the Independent Collaborative Monitoring of Environmental Disasters, involving more than 45.000 volunteers per year.

As journalist, it's one of the main founders and currently Financial Director of the Brazilian Network of Environmental Journalists (NGO), since 1999 have been to all United Nations Conferences, on Biological Diversity and Climate Change Conventions, and has been working for several years in partnership with national and international media organizations.

Von Matter is also a top author of a Scientific Blog for general audience, on Ecology and Conservation, with more than 30.000 views, per post. Currently responsible for Public Affairs and Institutional Relations of the Brazilian edition of the Pint of Science Festival.
